Anthony J. Rapino spends his days teaching at a local community college. But at night, Anthony J. Rapino, horror novelist, strikes fear in the hearts of his readers.
The publishing industry has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. Major bookstore chains have gone out of business, and an online only company, Amazon became the largest bookseller on the planet.
e-books have been around for two decades, but until Kindle, they were never adopted by mainstream publishers, writers or readers.
The era of the big publishing company has passed. Today small presses and even independent authors are able to compete on a level playing field with massive publishing houses. Furthermore, the big publishing houses are able to effectively market many more books. This is a big win for part-time novelists, textbook writers, and has spurred a resurgence of pulp fiction and fan fiction.
Writers are now able to publish electronically, work with the big print houses, and sell their wares even to small niche markets very effectively.
Business has even changed at the large publishing houses. To retain their dominance in the past, they would purchase rights to many books but only a few would become profitable because of printing expenses. Now the big publishers are able to make money on virtually every book they choose to promote.
Finally, readers have benefited most of all. They have access to more content than ever. Electronic publishing means more money for their writers, with less money spent on books. Lastly, the most avid readers can carry 1000 books in their purse or briefcase.
We are proud to have built Anthony J Rapino’s official website for two reasons. One, it let us be part of this rapidly changing industry. Two, Anthony happens to be Michael Rapino’s, Mediastead’s founder, older brother.
Check out Anthony’s official website… If you dare.
