Mediastead has integrated new Web server technology that dramatically improves time to first byte speed. Client websites load faster than ever.

Improving TTFB (time to first byte)

What is the value of seven seconds of your life? At Mediastead it’s extremely valuable.

WordPress (our preferred platform) has one drawback. It’s notoriously slow. WordPress websites, especially ones with heavy functionality, can take up to 30 seconds to load before the user sees what they’ve requested. We were better than average, around 12 seconds for a heavy website.

Twelve seconds wasn’t good enough for one of our clients. We dove into ways of dramatically improving our server speed, structure, stability and “TTFB” (Time To First Byte). We were able to drive down their TTFB, which is the time it takes from when you hit enter in your browser until you see the website you have requested, to 2.58 seconds!

Furthermore, the new technology was not dramatically more expensive, therefore all new websites are built on this new server.

Because the new server is so fantastic, we migrated all of our high-traffic clients to the new platform. Lower traffic clients are still on the old service because the switch takes up to 48 hours, during which time your website is up, but can’t be updated with new content.

However, if blazing fast speed is important to you, we will upgrade you for free, just ask. Call Michael and say “turbocharge me” and we will move your website within a few days seamlessly. And we will do it FREE.

Shout out to Burlington Telecom, an ISP from Vermont that needed a lightning fast website, for pushing us forward and ultimately benefiting all Mediastead clients.
